Q&A Post 1

Q: What is the coolest bug that you've seen?
A: There are some little beetle guys that we've found in our room a few times, and they're kind of neat looking :P   There are also some BIG bees like the bumble bees we have in Canada but at least twice the size.... they scare me!!

Q: If you've seen any big spiders, how big were they?
A: in our house we have spiders that look like Daddy Long Legs' but they're also twice the size as they are in Canada. We have one living on the door of our shower room that I named Herbert :)

Q: What is your favourite animal is that you've seen since you've been there?
A: So far its the biiiig snail we seen a few days ago.. theres a picture of it somewhere lower down in the blog haha

Q: What's one thing you recommend someone do or see if they go to Tanzania?
A: For sure go up into the mountains.... we're going a second time this weekend to see some waterfalls. I cant even describe the view from Morning Side. Theres hardly any polution so you can see for miles and miles. Plus the farms on 80 degree angles are really interesting to see... its hard to imagine people live and work on some of the slopes we seen.

Q: Whats something you forgot that you wish you had?
A: Definitly more skirts and dresses... I've learned to value how comfortable they are. Plus everyone wears them here so you stick out a bit if you're not wearing one (not that we dont stick out anyways as some of the very very few white people here.....:P)

Q: What's the biggest difference between Canada and Tanzania?
A: Pretty much everything... hahaha most of all i guess would be the culture, but i guess thats pretty vague haha.. The biggest thing with culture would have to be how respectful everyone is to elders as opposed to the very selfish generation thats coming up in the western world in general. There's some tribes that curtsy  to elders and I've gotten that a few times from little girls and its adorable. I want everyone to curtsy to me when i get home!! lmaooo

Q: When are you going to see animals?
A: As soon as I get a tour guide thats cheaper hahaahah it's so expensive to go to any of the parks

Q: What do you miss most about home?
A: My family and Matthew... Skype doesnt cut it some days lol but we're already almost half way through and we only have 4 more weeks of work yet... time's flying by yet going really slow all at the same time.

I Loved this.... keep all the questions coming!! :D

  1. Very cool Kaiti!

The kids say thanks....and they have more questions now....so here goes....

Dante would like to know what games the school kids play - are they just like here in Canada?

Daria would like to know what the flowers are like (I showed her some of the photos you've already posted but she'd love to see more!!)

We're glad your enjoying your time there (from your photos you can see the sheer happiness!)

    Keep up the fun!

  2. Hi Kaiti!

Great blog!! So happy to see that you're enjoying your volunteer time away. It's something that I think should be mandatory for every teenager out there! I'm sure you'll take away from the experience more than you've given, and that in itself is worth a million bucks!

On to my question: Are females treated as equals there?

    Stay well!

Comment to your Mom: It goes without saying that you should be very proud of Kaiti - although I'm sure her travels have come with a lot of anxious moments for you, what she's doing is far better than sitting on the sidelines. Great job raising your children, Diane. Not an easy feat these days - especially on your own! <3

    1. Glad you're enjoying the blog :) !! to answer your question, no they are not treated equally at all... its by far not the worst country in the world for equality but theres a lot of differences between canada and here... women are seen by a lot of people as property and just there to cook, clean and take care of the family as well as be well behaved and all that. The men are there to do all the hard work and most of the time if any of those roles are reversed theres a ton of discrimination. We even notice little things with our two local volunteers at times that are just cultural that they can't help. As women here we're even treated vastly differently than what white men would be treated as - we get yelled at and hit on and all kinds of crap :P.
For the most part though i really love this country and if i could just stay here and not come home next week i woulddddd
